WHY IS LIP AUGMENTATION SO POPULAR?
Full lips have increasingly been desired, as they are considered youthful and beautiful. This trend is increasingly reflected in popular culture. The use of injectable fillers has led to an even further increase in this trend.
WHAT HAPPENS TO THE LIPS AS WE AGE?
Several changes occur to the lips as a result of aging. There is a loss of fullness and projection, as well as the development of perioral (around the mouth) wrinkles and marionette lines. Most of these changes are genetic, and are the result of thinning of the muscle, fat, and loss of volume of the underlying bone.
WHY DO SO MANY PEOPLE HAVE “DUCK LIPS”?
An unnatural overfilled look is the result of too much filler being injected. Each person has different sized lips, and each person’s lips can accommodate a certain amount of filler. When someone with thin lips has too much filler injected, the natural proportions are skewed and the results look unnatural.
WHAT CAN I EXPECT?
It is important to Dr. Rogal to tailor each lip augmentation to each patient. She will ask you questions about your goals, and then examine your lips to determine a unique approach. It is extremely important that the results are natural, enhancing your beauty, not detracting from it. If multiple vials are being used, it may take multiple treatments to achieve the desired effect. It is normal to experience temporary swelling for several days following lip augmentation. This is perfectly normal and will resolve. Dr. Rogal only uses hyaluronic acid fillers for lip augmentation.
I AM YOUNG BUT WANT FULLER LIPS — IS THIS TREATMENT FOR ME?
You don’t have to have any signs of aging to want to augment your lips. Lips come in all shapes and sizes. Some people are born with naturally smaller lips, and others with fuller lips. Dr. Rogal will work with you to achieve your goals.
WHAT IS A LIP REDUCTION?
A lip reduction is intended for patients who previously had permanent lip augmentation, such as silicone, and no longer wish to have such full lips. Lips that have previously been injected with silicone, and have now aged, can sometimes show small lumps or bumps related to the previous injection. During a small surgical procedure under local anesthesia, the extra tissue can be removed to help restore the natural shape and beauty of your lips. The incision is hidden along the inside border of the lip.
