WHAT IS AN UPPER BLEPHAROPLASTY?
An upper blepharoplasty is a surgical procedure to remove excess skin of the upper eyelid. As we age the skin of the upper eyelid begins to sag, giving a tired and sad appearance to the eyes. An upper blepharoplasty is a procedure that is performed under local anesthesia or conscious sedation.
WHAT IS A LOWER BLEPHAROPLASTY?
A lower blepharoplasty is a surgical procedure used to correct aging of the lower eyelid. There are three factors that contribute to this look as we age:
- Shadows (caused by hollowing of eye socket)
- Puffy bags (caused by fat herniation)
- Discoloration or poor texture of skin (caused by thin skin)
Depending on your unique anatomy, one or more of these issues will be addressed during a lower blepharoplasty. This procedure is performed under conscious sedation and with an invisible incision located on the inside of the eyelid. The desired effect is a more youthful and refreshed looking under eye.

NONSURGICAL REJUVENATION OF THE EYE:
While surgery is the gold standard for the aging upper and lower eyelid, injectable fillers are often a great option for patients who do not want surgery or who are seeking a desired effect with less downtime. Typically, injectable fillers are used underneath the eyes to improve hollowing, creating a natural youthful appearance. In some cases, they can be used to contour hollowing of the upper eyelid as well. This procedure takes minutes in the office and lasts for about 1 year.
