Many people struggle with submental (under the chin) fat, or a “double chin”. This extra fat may be due to genetics or due to extra weight gain. The traditional method for removing fat is liposuction. Kybella® is a recent FDA approved injectable treatment that permanently dissolves fat under the chin.
How does Kybella®work?
Kybella® is injected under the chin over the course of 1-6 sessions, each spread out one month apart. The active ingredient in Kybella® is synthetic deoxycholic acid, which works similarly to the naturally occurring molecule in your own body, aiding in the breakdown and absorption of dietary fat. When injected under the chin, Kybella® dissolves the fat permanently, leaving a more defined neck and jawline.
What to expect
If Dr. Rogal determines that you are a candidate for Kybella®, you can have the first session performed during your office visit. The procedure takes approximately 10 minutes. The submental region will be marked with a grid, and then Kybella®, will be injected by Dr. Rogal. You will feel a slight stinging sensation related to the product. Following the procedure, you will be given ice to help with swelling. Most patients experience several days of noticeable swelling in the area that was injected. The area will remain swollen for up to 2 weeks, but generally only you will notice after the first several days. It is normal to feel numb in this area for up to 2 weeks following the injection. At approximately one month, you will return for a follow up appointment to determine if another session is needed. Patients, on average, undergo 3 sessions.

- You are not interested in or not a candidate for surgery
- You have good skin tone
Who is not a candidate for Kybella®?
If you have significant amounts of sagging skin or muscle in your neck, then Kybella®, may not be the right treatment for you. Kybella®, is not intended for those with an infection under the chin, or those who are pregnant or breastfeeding. Dr. Rogal will evaluate you during the consultation to determine if Kybella®, is the right treatment for you.
