Chin augmentation is a procedure used to enhance the shape and/or projection of the chin. A retrusive chin can cause disharmony with other features of the face, especially on profile view. In both men and women, a strong chin and jawline separates the face from the neck, projecting power, strength, confidence, and beauty. Chin augmentation can be performed alone, or often times with a rhinoplasty or facelift to help achieve greater facial balance.
During your consultation with Dr. Rogal, she will evaluate whether or not you would benefit from chin augmentation. After photographs are taken, she will be able to draw a simulation of what a chin augmentation would look like.
The procedure
A chin augmentation takes about one hour to complete in the operating room. The implant size and shape are chosen to best fit the your anatomy and desired outcome. The implant is inserted through a small incision under the chin. You will have stitches that will come out in 4-7 days, and be given antibiotics to take postoperatively.
Each chin augmentation procedure is tailored to each individual patient. The procedure can be combined with submental liposuction in order to better contour the neck if needed.
Nonsurgical Chin Augmentation
While chin augmentation is a relatively minor surgical procedure, some patients do not wish to or cannot undergo surgery. In these patients, nonsurgical chin augmentation with hyaluronic acid fillers is a great option. The procedure can be done in the office in approximately 10 minutes, and the results last approximately 1 year (sometimes longer). It is also a great option for patients who have not yet committed to surgical chin augmentation, and wish to “try on” an augmented chin. Like all hyaluronic acid fillers, the results are not permanent, and can always be reversed if desired.
