What is a microcannula?
A cannula is a thin, flexible, hollow tube used to inject fillers.
It is inserted through a small needle stick in the skin, and can be used to inject any area you would traditionally inject with a needle. Any area of the face can be accessed using a cannula, and only a single entry point is needed to access a large portion of the face. An entry point is made with a traditional needle that is slightly larger than the microcannula. The microcannula can then slide under the skin to the areas being augmented.
Advantages of a cannula
- Minimal to no bruising
- Less pain due to less needle sticks
- Nearly eliminates potential worst complications of fillers
Why still use needles at all?
While cannulas are great tools, traditional needles are still useful for injecting filler material superficially under the skin, such as when injecting fine lines or acne scarring.
